The highly acclaimed White Oak Singers were the host drum at our 1999
Pow Wow. The day started with a grand entry of all the dancers and
color guard. We were honored to have Mr. Clayton Old Elk, as our
master of ceremonies. He narrated each dance that was showcased
between chukkers and at halftime. Between chukkers the players watched on horseback in awe! Some
spectators mentioned it was the first time they had ever seen a polo game
or Pow Wow dancing. And they loved it! There were also Native
American vendors displaying and selling their beautiful crafts and
delicious food. Instead of the usual silver trophies awarded to the players,
dreamcatchers, rattles, and woven baskets were given, which thrilled the
players. A lance was given the Most Valuable Player, and a Mandala
was given to the Best Playing Pony. |
